Evra is just a cry baby, says Gustavo Poyet
by danang on Nov.18, 2011, under Premier League
Uruguayan legend Gus Poyet has accused Patrice Evra of ‘crying like a baby’ in the face of alleged racial taunts made by Poyet’s countryman Luis Suarez.
The Brighton manager spoke out after Liverpool striker Suarez was charged by the FA with racially abusing Manchester United defender Evra during a game at Anfield last month.
But Poyet, who played for Chelsea and Tottenham, said: ‘I believe Luis Suarez, it’s simple. I played football for seven years in Spain and was called everything because I was from South America. I never went out crying like a baby, like Patrice Evra, saying that someone said something to me.
‘I’m surprised, in a really sad way, that he’s been charged. It’s really sad. I think it’s worse to charge someone because you trust one person when you have no proof. (continue reading…)
City are favourites to win League title - Peter Reid
by danang on Oct.25, 2011, under Premier League
Former Manchester City boss Peter Reid believes the current team can beat Manchester United to the Premier League title after thrashing their rivals 6-1.
City’s win extended their lead at the top of the table to five points and Reid believes the strength of the City squad has overtaken United’s.
“You don’t win anything in October but they are hard to beat and they have strength in depth,” said Reid.
But ex-United midfielder Lee Sharpe said there had not been a power shift.
He told BBC Sport: “Manchester United are still vastly experienced when it comes to winning leagues and winning games.
“It’s maybe a wake-up call to work on a few things, but they will come back from this and they will still be challenging for the league.
“When it comes to the last six games of the season when the pressure really starts to mount that is when United have the experience of being in that position before whereas City haven’t, so nothing is won or lost just yet, it was just a bit of a shock result.” (continue reading…)
Ferguson: My worst defeat ever
by danang on Oct.25, 2011, under Premier League
ALEX FERGUSON suffered his “worst-ever day” as Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City set off rockets at Old Trafford yesterday.
Fergie’s noisy neighbours hit the champions for six, with two-goal Mario Balotelli igniting the bonfire.
Just 36 hours earlier, the fiery Italian had to flee his blazing Manchester home after a firework prank went wrong.
But that did not stop Balotelli lighting the touchpaper on United’s worst defeat for 81 years.
Fergie said: “It was our worst-ever day. It’s the worst result in my history, ever.
“Even as a player I don’t think I ever lost 6-1. I can’t believe the scoreline.
“I’m shattered, I can’t believe it. It was an incredible disappointment. (continue reading…)
Welcome back Capt!
by danang on Sep.22, 2011, under Premier League
Steven Gerrard returned to Liverpool colours after six months out with groin trouble and claimed the team’s 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday was “out of our system now” with this third-round Carling Cup win at Brighton & Hove Albion.
England’s vice-captain replaced Luis Suárez 73 minutes into Liverpool’s 2-1 victory and assumed a central-midfield position alongside Jay Spearing and Lucas Leiva. Gerrard, now 31, confined himself to neat short passes and half-speed forward thrusts as Liverpool contained a dangerous second-half fightback from Championship opposition.
“Tonight was not about me. It was about progressing in the cup and getting that Tottenham performance out of our system and I think we have now done that,” he said. “It is down to the manager now. I have been out for six months so it is about getting training sessions under my belt and match time. Hopefully I will be selected for the 18 against Wolves [at the weekend].”
“Steve coming back in was fantastic for everyone coming at the football club, but we are more pleased for Steven than anyone else,” Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, said. “He had a few setbacks along the way and we have had to manage it to get him this far. We need to be careful and we won’t get carried away – but it’s great for everyone.” (continue reading…)

Match preview : Dortmund-Arsenal
by danang on Sep.13, 2011, under Champions League
Borussia Dortmund come into the season as the reigning Bundesliga Champions, but it will be interesting to see if they are a one-hit wonder, or if this young team really is one that will start a new dominance in Germany. They will also take part in their first Champions League season for 9 years when they open up Group F in front of their passionate support.
Dortmund has started inconsistently in their domestic League, going 2-1-2 over the first 5 games of the season. That leaves them down in 11th position in the Bundesliga, but this is a competitive League and they are only 5 points behind Bayern Munich in first place with every team having lost at least 1 game this season. They are 2-0-1 at home in their opening games, scoring 6 goals and conceding 3.
In fact, the defeat to Hertha Berlin at home at the weekend was their first in 18 in all competitions. Of those 18 games, Borussia Dortmund have won 13 including against the likes of Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Hamburg. (continue reading…)
Neville : Fergie will stay as long as he wants
by danang on Sep.05, 2011, under Premier League
Gary Neville has said “there’s no point” trying to predict when his former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will quit the club.
Ferguson, who turns 70 in December, shelved retirement plans in 2002, but intrigue over his future has remained.
“There’s no point in thinking about succession planning because he will stay as long as he wants,” Neville told BBC 5 live’s Sportsweek programme.
“I don’t see this manager quitting. He is just the absolute best.”
Neville, who clocked up 400 league appearances and more than 600 in total at United under Ferguson between 1992 and 2011, added: “He has health on his side and he looks the same to me as he did 10 to 15 years ago.
“How can you think about succession when you have a man that shows no sign of giving up, no sign of wanting to quit, no sign of not wanting to be the manager anymore?
“For all Manchester United fans, they hope he stays forever.” (continue reading…)
Florentino Pérez begins to lose patience with Jose Mourinho
by danang on Aug.19, 2011, under La Liga
Jose Mourinho is facing failure for the first time in his managerial career after it emerged Real Madrid’s hierarchy are growing increasingly impatient with the endless swirl of controversy generated by the Portuguese and are prepared to end the Special One’s reign at the Bernabeu if his second season at the club does not bring tangible success.
The former Chelsea manager was once more at the centre of the storm on Wednesday night as his Real side lost the Spanish Super Cup to Barcelona, a result marred by a mass brawl on the Nou Camp pitch in which the Portuguese appeared to eye-gouge the European champions’ assistant manager Tito Vilanova. Mourinho then proceeded to label his conquerors “a small club” in a frenzied outburst after the game.
Such antics have long been associated with Mourinho in his spells at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan, but it is believed Real’s president Florentino Pérez is unimpressed by actions he perceives as damaging to the club’s reputation.
The notoriously implacable construction tycoon is likely to tolerate them only as long as Mourinho is successful, raising the possibility of the 48 year-old being sacked for the first time in his illustrious career should he fail to topple Pep Guardiola’s side either domestically or in Europe this season. United former Gary Neville : desperate Liverpool must wait
by danang on Aug.11, 2011, under Premier League
Neville, who retired in February this year, has had a hand to play in United overtaking their bitter rivals as the most successful club in English football.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has told Liverpool their desperate wait for a league title is set to continue.
The former England international has spent almost 20 years at Old Trafford and won eight Premier League titles with the Red Devils.
Speaking of Liverpool’s chances of winning their first league title since 1990, the 36-year-old believes the Reds might have to continue waiting.
“Liverpool are getting to that point where they need that success now. The club demands it,” he was quoted as saying in The Sun newspaper.
“Going back to 1992-3 you just become very desperate and very wanting. You become needy. (continue reading…)
