UCL : Milan v Spurs match preview
by danang on Feb.15, 2011, under Champions League
Here is what Rossoneri tactician Massimiliano Allegri had to say today at Milanello: “In their last games, Tottenham have done well even in Bale’s absence. They’re an organised, pacy team, formed by technically gifted individuals. It’s a Champions League last sixteen encounter, it will be very difficult, also because in total it will last 180 minutes. Seedorf? He’s likely to play, because, apart from the injuries, we’ll also have to do without our January signings in the Champions League. Gattuso, Seedorf, Flamini, Merkel and Jankulovski are available in midfield and also Thiago Silva can be an option in front of the defence. I’ll make a decision on the line-up later today. Either Oddo or Abate will play at right-back. Whoever will play will be ready for a great game. Abate has recovered, while Oddo has done well in recent matches. I think Milan’s objective can’t be other than going as far as possible in the Champions League. (continue reading…)
Cassano to join AC Milan
by danang on Dec.22, 2010, under Others
Italian Serie A leaders AC Milan have agreed a deal to sign unsettled Italian international striker Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria in the January transfer window.
Italian news agency Ansa have confirmed the 28-year-old will finally be leaving the Genoa-based club following his highly-publicized row with Sampdoria owner Riccardo Garrone in October.
Cassano has not played a competitive match since falling out with Sampdoria, although the club recently failed to get the player’s contract cancelled at an arbitration panel.
Although Cassano cannot officially join Milan until next month, he can join his new club at their winter training camp in Dubai from December 27.
Neither club has confirmed the deal yet, however, Italian media have reported that Cassano’s contract will run until 2014 and that a 5m euros sell-on clause due to former club Real Madrid will now be divided between Milan, Sampdoria and the player. (continue reading…)
Match Verdict : Milan v Roma
by danang on Dec.18, 2010, under Serie A
Milan would be seeking to get a win over Roma and in the process extend their lead over Roma to a 13 point gap when they break for the winter break.
Claudio Ranieri’s side has a lot to make up after a poor start to their season. A defeat to Milan for Roma would all but surely end their chances of landing the scudetto for them.
Roma would be hoping to extend their good run against Milan as they have won three of their last five trips to Milan in all competitions. But last Sunday they displayed a very poor show against bottom club Bari and going by that form they will struggle this season.
Francesco Totti saw a penalty saved and Roma?s winning goal, scored by Juan, came from an offside position.
Meanwhile, Milan a six point lead over their rivals going into the weekend fixtures. Last weekend they beat Bologna 3-0 was impressive especially the showing by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. (continue reading…)
Match Analysis : Inter v Milan
by danang on Nov.13, 2010, under Serie A
Match of the week as Inter Milan faces A.C Milan in the Milan derby with everything to play for as Milan are top of the table, Inter in crisis and Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to face his former club.
A.C Milan have reinforced their squad and brought in former Inter hero Ibrahimovic, who will be guaranteed a hot reception here no doubt. All eyes will be on him as he only scored twice for Inter in the derby. He will shoulder more burden here as Alexandre Pato and Pippo Inzaghi are out of action. Both limped off on Wednesday evening and the veteran?s season is effectively over after knee ligament surgery.
Ronaldinho could return to the team after he was dropped for the wins over Bari and Palermo. If he does not return, Clarence Seedorf another ex-Inter star can keep his place in the side. Robinho scored in midweek but missed several open chances that came his way. Andrea Pirlo also joined Milan from Inter many years ago but he is rated doubtful for this clash after picking up a thigh problem before the Palermo game. (continue reading…)
Milan players talk after draws againts Madrid
by danang on Nov.04, 2010, under Champions League
MILAN – Below is what coach Allegri and the Rossoneri players had to say following the match against Real Madrid:
GIANLUCA ZAMBROTTA: “We’re sorry for the result. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time that we concede a goal in injury time. At a certain level these things are unacceptable. We need to be more careful, nevertheless, despite the result we shouldn’t have regrets, seeing that we did a lot in order to win. We wanted to make up for the loss against Juventus, it’s a shame we conceded that goal at the end.
Sometimes you have to pay fatigue, this is what happened to us in the 94 minute. These are mistakes to avoid, but people shouldn’t forget that we played against a great team.
Inzaghi? He’s very dangerous in the Champions League, he deserves compliments.” (continue reading…)
Match preview : AC Milan v Real Madrid
by danang on Nov.03, 2010, under Champions League
AC Milan have a rich history in this competition, but suffice to say this side is not one of their best that they have had. The team was allowed to age during their recent period of success and the lack of funds in Italy has made it harder to attract the best players and suitable replacements. Milan have a tough task ahead of them to get out of this tough group and sit on the same number of points as Ajax, both teams 5 adrift of Real. The Rossoneri beat Auxerre 2-0 here and then draw with Ajax 1-1 in Amsterdam before losing to Real 2-0 last time out.
They have kept tabs on the top sides in Serie A too as they look to get back to the top of a mountain they have not seen since the early part of this decade. Milan are 3rd in the table, 5 points behind Lazio and only 1 point back from local rivals Inter Milan. They have a 3-1-1 record at the San Siro where they have scored 10 goals and conceded 4. Ibra : I have problem with Guardiola
by danang on Aug.26, 2010, under La Liga, Serie A
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has closed in on a move to Milan after comments about his difficult position at Barcelona. The Swedish striker declared he has problems with Barca coach Josep Guardiola. He also mentioned he would like to play with Ronaldinho at Milan.
The former Internazionale star, who arrived at the Camp Nou last summer, revealed he hasn’t heard from Guardiola for six months.
“Guardiola has not spoken to me for six months,” he told Sky Italia television.
“He only did so twice. I would like to understand why, but he won’t tell me. I need to be happy. I’m fine in Barcelona, but I have problems with the coach.
“The directors tell me they don’t want me to go, but at the same time how can I continue here when the manager doesn’t speak to me?
“Milan? I don’t know at what stage the negotiations are, but I would like to play with Ronaldinho.”
The 29-year-old played for Barca in a friendly against Milan in Spain on Wednesday night, after which he told reporters that he had no relationship with his club coach, although he claimed he knew nothing about Milan’s reported interest. (continue reading…)
Beckham miss World Cup due to injury
by danang on Mar.15, 2010, under Serie A
David Beckham’s dream of playing in a fourth World Cup looks over after he tore an Achilles tendon in AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo on Sunday.
Beckham was unchallenged when he suffered the injury and hobbled off in pain before being stretchered away.
The 34-year-old was hoping to be part of England’s World Cup squad in June, but instead will fly to Finland on Monday for specialist surgery.
“A rupture of the Achilles tendon is suspected,” said an AC Milan statement.
Beckham, who is in his second loan stint with Milan from the Los Angeles Galaxy, will now almost certainly not be fit for the World Cup in South Africa which starts on 11 June.
Consultant sports physician Dr Tom Crisp told BBC Radio 5 live: “It’s remotely possible he may be running in three months. The chances of him being fit to play for England are non-existent.”
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said that the Englishman will be out for “probably five or six months”. (continue reading…)
United 4-0 Milan
by danang on Mar.11, 2010, under Champions League
There were protests and there were prizes. A gold star for Wayne Rooney; a green and gold scarf for David Beckham.
And there was yet another appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals to celebrate for supporters who began this enchanted Old Trafford evening applauding their remarkable young striker and ended it by turning, once again, on their club’s American owners.
For the aforementioned Manchester United old boy, it amounted to quite a night. Far more enjoyable, it has to be said, than it would have been for the other old boys of AC Milan. This was as depressing an evening as this once great side have had in Europe for many a year. Further evidence that they have become sporting geriatrics.
Not that their suffering was of any concern to Rooney and United. Inspired, once again, by their brilliant England forward, United were sensational in the way they secured their club’s first victory against the San Siro giants.
Two more goals for Rooney. One each for the excellent Ji-Sung Park and the irrepressible Darren Fletcher. It was a battering almost as impressive as the one dished out by Arsenal the previous night. (continue reading…)
