Manchester United cancel a deal for ‘little Kaká’
by danang on Dec.03, 2009, under Premier League
Manchester United’s American owners have terminated an agreement to sign Adem Ljajic, the Serbia Under-21 international, in the January transfer window, after deciding that he is too expensive a gamble, 11 months after publicly announcing that a deal had been put in place to sign the player dubbed the “little Kaká” in his own country.
Ljajic, 18, was part of the £16.5m deal that also saw his Partizan Belgrade team-mate Zoran Tosic move to Old Trafford last January. The teenager had been on trial at United the previous October and was regarded at the time as the more promising of the two players but United also decided that he should remain in Belgrade to get some more first-team experience before moving to England.
What was not revealed at the time was that the club also stipulated that a get-out clause was written into the contract to cover themselves before Ljajic moved to Manchester long term, and the club have now confirmed they have used that agreement to pull out of the arrangement. (continue reading…)
Angry Ferguson : Leave my kids alone!
by danang on Dec.02, 2009, under Premier League
Sir Alex Ferguson has hit back at critics of Manchester United’s young players and has reminded them of what can happen to pundits when they choose to write off his players.
BBC football expert Alan Hansen was famously left to rue his judgment when he suggested that Ferguson would ‘win nothing with kids’ after blooding the David Beckham and Paul Scholes generation at the start of the 1995-96 season.
That team went on to win the league and dominate English football for years and Ferguson has warned that critics of his current crop of youngsters have left themselves vulnerable to similar embarrassment in the future.
The United manager will once again throw young players such as Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and Darron Gibson into action in the Carling Cup quarter-final at home to Tottenham on Tuesday, just a week after they lost 1-0 at home to Besiktas in the Champions League. (continue reading…)
Mourinho Linked Once Again With Manchester United
by danang on Dec.02, 2009, under Premier League
Reports from England continue to suggest that Inter coach Jose Mourinho will replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
The Daily Mail reports that the Portuguese tactician will return to the Premier League to coach Manchester United once Sir Alex Ferguson announces his retirement. Mourinho has often been touted as the heir to the 67-year-old Scotsman at the club.
‘Fergie’has said he will be in charge of United as long as “his heath permits it,” but the Daily Mail suggests he may decide to resign within the next couple of seasons.
Ferguson has been in charge of United since 1986, winning 12 Premier League crowns, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League trophies along with several other titles.
Mourinho, a former manager of Chelsea, brought the Blues their first league titles in 50 years during his spell at the club from 2004 to 2007. His other major achievements include winning the Champions League with Porto and a Serie A title with Inter. (continue reading…)
Catch us if you can
by danang on Dec.01, 2009, under Premier League
Didier Drogba has issued a ‘catch us if you can’ challenge to Chelsea’s Premier League rivals.
The striker is on fire this season and notched another brace as Carlo Ancelotti’s side easily beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.
The win opened up a five-point gap on nearest challengers Manchester United at the top of the table, while Spurs in third are a massive ten points behind and the Gunners in fourth are 11 points adrift with a game in hand.
While some already believe the Blues are home and hosed, Drogba is not counting his chickens just yet.
But he admits he is glad the Blues are in the driving seat and it is other teams who have to chase them.
Good gap
He said: “The lead is not enough, but at the same time it’s a good gap. We have to keep winning our games. (continue reading…)
Rafa : This was a really important victory for us
by danang on Nov.30, 2009, under Premier League
Rafael Benitez hopes the 2-0 victory over Everton in the 212th Merseyside derby can be the catalyst to kick-start Liverpool’s season.
Javier Mascherano’s deflected shot and an opportunist finish from Dirk Kuyt handed the Reds a crucial three points as they returned to winning ways in the Barclays Premier League.
“This was a really important victory for us,” Benitez told his post-match press conference.
“We won in Debrecen in midweek and we knew that we needed to keep winning. A derby is always a very difficult game and also very important, so to win today could be a boost for the rest of the season.
“We are higher in the table now and everybody is happy. We will see if we can now keep winning games. (continue reading…)
KAKA : We are Real Madrid and we must dictate the tempo of the match everywhere we play
by danang on Nov.29, 2009, under La Liga
Kaka is 24 hours away from his first Clasico in Spain, but the midfielder has plenty of experience playing in matches of such magnitude. The midfielder spoke to GolTV about the game.
“It will be a great match. My teammates have told me how unique it is. It will be fun to play and I hope we do well,” said Kaka to GolTV.
“There is no favorite in this kind of match. Barcelona are a strong and dangerous team with great players. We need to play our football. We are Real Madrid and we must dictate the tempo of the match everywhere we play.”
“We will play better with Cristiano Ronaldo. He will make us better. Such a complete player will definitely help us. We are friends off the pitch as well. We have similar interests. Although the whole world knows just how good a football player he is, he is also a great friend.” (continue reading…)
RAFFA BENITEZ : THIS IS THE BIGGEST LOCAL DERBY
by danang on Nov.29, 2009, under Premier League
Rafa Benitez believes Liverpool and Everton will compete in English football’s biggest local derby on Sunday.
Tottenham and Arsenal may be as competitive as ever, and things have certainly spiced up in Manchester, but Benitez claims nothing can match the Merseyside derby for passion and atmosphere.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: “I don’t think there is a bigger local derby in England. It’s a fantastic game for everyone involved and I haven’t seen anything like it at this level. You can see the passion in all the people and that’s good for the atmosphere and the football.
“You can see the people and talk with them, and you get the same feeling. It’s an important game for everyone. For me as a manager, and because I’ve been here a long time, I’ll always try to win every game - but especially the derby. (continue reading…)
