Angry Arsene Wenger: You deliver us Theo Walcott, not England
by danang on Nov.24, 2009, under Premier League
There isn’t much that will ruffle Arsene Wenger’s feathers, but it took just one question about Theo Walcott on Monday to flip him over the edge.
The Arsenal manager took exception to an enquiry about his injury-prone winger’s chances of going to the World Cup with England.
Wenger’s stern words will have left Walcott in no doubt that his loyalties should lie with the club who pay his £60,000-a-week wages.
Wenger is adamant that the rest of the Premier League campaign should be about Walcott demonstrating his commitment to Arsenal, not used as a proving ground for a place on the plane to South Africa.
Wenger fumed: ‘Why should I not be frustrated? The guy asks me if it’s an important season because Theo is going to the World Cup. The World Cup is in June. Is he on holiday until June 9? You cannot be serious.
‘You are paid by Arsenal FC, not by the World Cup. During the World Cup he will be paid by Arsenal FC. He’s not played this year. It’s not his fault. What I mean is it doesn’t have to be my worry what happens in the World Cup. You must be serious. (continue reading…)
Henry consider to quit France
by danang on Nov.23, 2009, under Others
Thierry Henry considered ending his international career in the wake of his handball controversy against the Republic of Ireland.
The France striker was upset at the immediate lack of backing from the French Football Federation and claimed only the support of his family ensured he continued with Les Bleus.
Former Arsenal captain Henry was ready to turn his back on the 2010 World Cup finals - many people feel that FIFA should ban him from playing in South Africa after his handball enabled William Gallas to score the goal that sent France through.
He said: ‘Maybe I should not have celebrated the goal as I did but it was instinctive and uncontrollable. Yes, I regret it but after the game and even the next day I felt truly alone. (continue reading…)
Milito will not mess with Messi on Matchday V
by danang on Nov.23, 2009, under Champions League
Diego Milito might prefer Lionel Messi to take no risks with his groin injury this week and to miss FC Barcelona’s enthralling Matchday 5 meeting with FC Internazionale Milano, noting that his Argentina team-mate is “the best, most decisive player in the world”.
Quick recovery
The Inter striker knows Messi well from their time together with Argentina, and is well aware of the damage he can do in the UEFA Champions League. Barça’s main man picked up a minor groin strain in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Athletic Club Bilbao and his presence in what could be a decisive Group F meeting will remain in doubt until kick-off. Milito wishes Messi a quick recovery but knows that his participation or absence could be a deciding factor.
‘Extraordinary’
“Without a doubt Messi is the best, most decisive player in the world,” argued the Inter striker, who has scored nine goals in thirteen matches in all competitions this season. “Leo can win a game on his own at any moment because he’s extraordinary. Playing with him every weekend must be a joy (continue reading…)

MARTIN SAMUEL Column : Henry is not Diego Maradona
by danang on Nov.23, 2009, under Others
It would be easy to board the bandwagon and depict Thierry Henry as the biggest cheat in football.
Easy to call for him to be banned from the World Cup for an offence that, if spotted, would have been punished by a yellow card. Easy to pronounce his good name gone for ever, his presence in South Africa next summer a hollow disgrace. (continue reading…)

SECOND PAINKILLING INJECTION FOR GERRARD LEAD LIVERPOOL TO HELD CITY
by danang on Nov.22, 2009, under Others
STEVEN GERRARD has had a second painkilling injection to ensure he leads from the front as Liverpool begin another pivotal week.
The Kop skipper returned to the starting line-up for yesterday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City after recovering from a groin injury.
Now he’s hoping to inspire a Champions League revival against Debrecen on Tuesday.
There were fears the 30-year-old would need an operation to cure any lingering pain.
But another cortisone injection in midweek should prevent the need for surgery.
Gerrard has been desperate to help get Liverpool’s season back on track. An operation would only rule him out for three weeks, but with so many important games coming up he knows his club needs him.
“It’s been a frustrating few weeks,” admitted Gerrard.
“It’s been a strange month because as soon as I was fit we had the international break.
“I’ve been dying to play and can’t wait to get going again. (continue reading…)
EVRA SAYS CHEAT HENRY DESERVES A STATUE
by danang on Nov.22, 2009, under Premier League
PATRICE EVRA believes there should be a statue erected to handball cheat Thierry Henry.
The Manchester United defender leapt to the defence of his team-mate and claimed Henry would have been a ‘traitor’ if he’d confessed to the referee he’d cheated Ireland out of a World Cup place.
Evra said: “Frankly, if he had done that, I would have told him: ‘Titi, you have betrayed us’.
“It’s madness. We are arguing about Henry when we should be erecting a statue to him.”
There are rumours in the French media that Henry is so distressed by becoming the target of global abuse he is considering quitting international football. (continue reading…)
RAFA’S RESPONSE TO 2-2 WITH CITY
by danang on Nov.22, 2009, under Premier League
Rafa Benitez backed Liverpool to hold off the threat of Manchester City and establish themselves back in the top four over the coming months after his side salvaged a point in difficult circumstances at Anfield.
Martin Skrtel’s first goal in English football gave the Reds a 1-0 lead just after the break but strikes from Stephen Ireland and Emmanuel Adebayor turned the game on its head.
The hosts were right to feel hard done by after replays showed Ireland was offside for his effort but within a minute Yossi Benayoun levelled at the Anfield Road End.
Liverpool were without Fernando Torres and Glen Johnson for the clash and were dealt early blows with injuries to Ryan Babel (twisted ankle) and Daniel Agger (five stitches after a clash of heads with Kolo Toure). (continue reading…)
