Leicester City have made a £30million bid to sign Fiorentina and Argentina winger Nico Gonzalez, according to reports.
Fiorentina paid around £21m to sign Gonzalez from Bundesliga side Stuttgart in 2021.
The 24-year-old has scored 13 and assisted nine in 50 appearances for the Florence outfit.
Multiple reports coming out this week claim that Leicester have made a tempting offer to sign Gonzalez.
The Foxes have been very poor this term and are clearly in need of some new recruits.
Beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United in the last eight of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, Brendan Rodgers’ side remain in the FA Cup but are 15th in the Premier League with 11 defeats; only Southampton have more (12).
Rodgers is severely lacking in options when it comes to wide players, with Ayoze Perez coming into the team of late and struggling to impress.
Gonzalez is a left-footed player who can play on either wing and is definitely the sort of profile Leicester should be looking at.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Foxes have offered Fiorentina ‘about £30m’.
Di Marzio claims Fiorentina are ‘considering’ the bid, though they seem ‘oriented towards saying yes’.
Sky Sports‘ Rob Dorsett also confirmed that Leicester have approached the Serie A club over a deal to sign the Argentina international – who has three goals in 21 caps for his country.
Dorsett wrote on Twitter on Wednesday morning: ‘LCFC have approached Fiorentina about poss deal for winger Nico Gonzalez. A left-footed right winger has been top of Rodgers’ wanted list.
’24-year-old Argentinian moved from Stuttgart 18 months ago and has 13 goals and 9 assists in 50 apps in Italy. He is likely to cost £25m+.’
Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano has since discussed the news of Leicester’s interest.
“There is value in this Fiorentina, but I think they are just rumours,” Tuttomercatoweb report Italiano saying on Wednesday.
“Today I saw Nico with a great desire to return to condition, he’s pushing hard in training. I’ve never opened up other discussions, the only intention is to have the Gonzalez of last year back.”
While Rodgers is hoping to bring in Gonzalez, he may be losing a couple of important players at the end of the season.
Midfielder Youri Tielemans and defender Caglar Soyuncu are both out of contract at the end of the season and seem likely to leave the King Power.
Much has been said about Tielemans and reported interest from Arsenal, with the Premier League leaders unlikely to make a bid this month.
However, we will provide you an update on Caglar and reported interest in him coming from Atletico Madrid.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this month that Soyuncu has a verbal agreement with Atletico.
And now AS say Los Rojiblancos ‘insist on signing’ the Turkish international in the January transfer window.
Atletico are currently in talks with Leicester, with Soyuncu eager to join them as soon as possible.
Should a deal be finalised, the player expects to pen a five-and-a-half-year contract worth €5m per year.
