Oleksandr Zinchenko could be part of a potential swap deal that would see Arsenal sign Theo Hernandez from AC Milan, according to reports.
The Gunners have been in brilliant form this season with the summer signings of Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City helping to beef out their squad with quality.
Arsenal are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League with nine matches to play, although second-placed Man City have a game in hand.
Mikel Arteta’s side are close to being guaranteed a place in the Champions League and their participation will help boost the calibre of signings they can make.
One position they have a plethora of options in is left-back with Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney battling it out for a starting spot, although the Ukraine international has been winning that battle, while they also have Nuno Tavares out on loan.
However, Italian publication Calciomercato claims that AC Milan are ‘in danger of losing’ Hernandez to the Premier League with Arsenal interested in signing the France international.
The Gunners ‘have a proposal ready to tempt [Paolo] Maldini’ for Hernandez with ‘not just the [Rafael] Leao affair that is shaking up Milan in recent weeks’.
Calciomercato adds that Hernandez ‘could be included by Arteta in Arsenal’s target list’ as he ‘would allow for a further leap in quality’ after signing Zinchenko in the summer.
And the report reckons there is a possibility that ‘a concrete offer’ will arrive in the summer and Arsenal ‘could go beyond the cash and try to put one of their two left-handed players in the pot’.
Arsenal plan to offer ‘Zinchenko or Tierney plus an important economic adjustment to reach the overall valuation of the Frenchman which is around 70-80million euros (£61.5m-£70m)’.
But the website does warn Arsenal that it’s ‘unlikely that Milan will be tempted by a proposal like this’ as they are hoping to renew contracts of some of their ‘big names’.
Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini has brought more potential negative transfer news for AC Milan as Arsenal are ‘strongly interested’ in Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio.
The Spaniard is available on a free transfer in the summer with his contract at the Bernabeu expiring with the 27-year-old looking for more game time elsewhere.
Asensio has contributed six goals and four assists in 21 La Liga matches this season but just eight of those appearances have come in the starting XI.
